This is an original 30 x 40 inch oil on canvas harness racing painting by Martha J Dodd depicts Hall of Fame Driver, Billy Haughton with World Record breaker harness racing horse, Nihilator.
Martha Dodd worked in Physical Therapy for racehorses for the Bill Haughton Stable in New York, New Jersey, Kentucky and Florida for 5 years. During this time, Martha had an interest in painting horses.
William R. “Billy” Haughton (1923 – 1986) was an American harness driver and trainer. He was one of only three drivers to win the Hambletonian four times, the only one to win the Little Brown Jug five times, and the only one to win the Messenger Stakes seven times.
Nihilator was an American champion Standardbred racehorse and was the United States Harness Horse of the Year in 1985. At the time of his retirement, Nihilator was the leading stakes earning pacer in harness racing history
